How We Work

Our communication practices, decision-making processes, and meeting culture

Communication

We use a combination of synchronous and asynchronous communication to get things done. We value clear, concise communication and we try to be mindful of each other's time.

  • Discord: For quick questions, real-time collaboration, and water cooler chat. We have a #general channel for company-wide announcements, a #team channel for day-to-day work, and a #random channel for everything else.
  • Loom.com or Discord: For more formal communication, and for anything that needs a longer-form response.
  • Google Meets or Discord chats: For team meetings, 1-on-1s, and any conversation that's better had face-to-face.

Decision-Making & Accountability

Dan and Greg make most of the key decisions but aim to delegate clear mandates to those working within Eddy. We generally follow the Advice Process—consulting with teammates, stakeholders, and each other before acting. That said, we believe momentum matters more than perfection. It’s better to move, learn, and iterate toward the right solution than to wait for certainty. As long as we’re about 80% right, we can figure out the rest along the way.

Once a decision is made, the company assumes the risk of that initiative. No one will ever be held personally accountable for something that doesn’t work out as hoped. Every meaningful effort carries some degree of risk. What matters is that we move quickly, act thoughtfully, and keep striving to build reliable, high-quality experiences.

Meetings

We are not big fans of meetings. We try to have as few of them as possible. When we do have meetings, we make sure they are well-run and productive.

  • Agenda: Every meeting has a clear agenda.
  • Facilitator: Every meeting has a facilitator who is responsible for keeping the meeting on track.
  • Action items: Every meeting ends with clear action items, and a person responsible for each one.

We have a few regular meetings:

  • Monthly 1 on 1s
  • Fortnightly sprint plans and workshops - Europe and NZ teams
  • 4 Monthly Strategic Reviews - All Key stakeholders and staff
